Emily joined the team at HeadwayHealth in 2014. She previously worked in a private clinic in Mosman for ten years and number of other Consulting Psychology roles which have contributed to her breadth of experience.  Emily has particular expertise in assessing and treating anxiety and depressive disorders.  Changes in mood are common in the context of health concerns and Emily also applies her expertise and skills to those affected by illness and work-related injuries. Emily has a particular interest and expertise in supporting people living with cancer, carers and those living with chronic pain. Chronic pain can develop from a number of different underlying chronic diseases or conditions. It can be very difficult to adjust to normal life and deal with the pain as the experience is typically different for everyone. Emily works with people to live a meaningful and fulfilling life: strategies may target changes to physical functioning, managing the emotional impact and achieving other important lifestyle goals.

Emily’s current skill set is based on a wide breadth of experiences working with clients in a range of settings and with a range of goals. She worked as a Senior Psychologist at Effective Australia for 8 years providing a range of psychological services to clients, managing a number of counselling programs, as well as providing clinical supervision to Provisionally registered Psychologists. The rehabilitation services she provided and supervised included schemes funded through Comcare, WorkCover NSW and the Australian Defence Force. She also extended her professional scope as a Quality and Risk Manager and Lead Auditor under the National Framework for Workers Compensation.

Prior to this role, Emily worked with Dysaran Consulting both in Sydney and Canberra managing three government Employee Assistance Programs which provided psychological interventions and counselling for a range of concerns including depression, stress, pain, and health and relationship concerns.

Emily also has skills in the administration of psychological tests for vocational assessment pre-employment assessment reports, vocational counselling and critical incident debriefing sessions. In her clinical roles Emily has also provided counselling services for Work Cover NSW injured workers, supportive Pregnancy Counselling and delivered Stress Management Training. Emily has also worked as a Psychologist for the NSW Workplace Tragedy Family Support Group.

Emily also provides HeadwayHealth’s Assistance Program (HAP), an employee assistance program to support staff at their place of employment. HAP provides employees with the opportunity to identify concerns that impact their wellbeing and work/life functioning. Concerns may include:
* Work related problems such as burnout, harassment, discrimination, etc
* Emotional concerns such as stress, anxiety, trauma, low mood, depression etc
* Health or lifestyle concerns, such as illness, carer responsibilities, poor sleep, alcohol/substance use, etc
* Relationship difficulties
* Child and family worries
* Grief and bereavement
* Financial and gambling difficulties
* Or any other work related or personal problems that are having an impact on your functioning and wellbeing.
Emily will work together with you to identify your goals and an intervention plan of strategies and tools to improve your wellbeing both inside and outside of the workplace. Emily can also suggest additional or ongoing support services that may be of assistance. The HAP is a confidential services within duty of care standards and an important recognition by employers of the important role of wellbeing in the workplace.

Emily has a Psychology degree from the University of Canberra, Graduate Diplomas in both Counselling and Applied Psychology, and has completed advanced training empirically in validated interventions including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness techniques. She is an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society.

Emily provides services at the Centre for Wellness at the Mater Hospital North Sydney, Northern Beaches Breast Clinic and Frenchs Forest.
