Dr Alex Withers offers a warm and compassionate approach alongside the provision of targeted research-based strategies to her clients.  Alex has worked with people from many walks of life and in many different age groups, and although she has skills to assist those living with a range of different concerns she has a particular interest in health, adjustment across the lifespan, and working with older adults.

Alex has over 10 years expertise in Clinical Psychology from her background in both hospital-based oncology services and private practice.  She undertook her undergraduate and post graduate psychology training as a mature student having her first career in biology and teaching and is passionate about working collaboratively with her clients to achieve the very best outcomes.

During her work in hospital, research and private practice settings, Alex’s main therapeutic modalities have been Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.  She has extensive training and experience in these therapies and is also skilled in using emotion regulation and mindfulness techniques.  Alex works with clients who have a broad range of concerns to help them achieve and maintain the best lifestyle and quality of life possible using these evidence-based strategies.

Along with her clinical work, Alex has been involved in research looking into anxiety and depression treatment pathways, and the experiences of stem cell transplant recipients.  She also supervises trainee psychologists, lectures in Health Psychology and is a member of the APS, ACPA and the Anxiety Practitioners’ Network.

 Outside of work Alex enjoys a busy family, staying fit and home renovations.
